Peace Connections celebrates 25 years! 1983-2008

Peace Connections 25th Anniversary Endowment Fund

Thanks to you we have made great progress toward reaching our goal of $30,000 for the Peace Connections Endowment. Approximately $25,000 has been pledged for this fund since the beginning of 2008. Currently, we have invested $10,000 in the Central Kansas Foundation, which will give us a 50% match, making this $15,000. We also have invested $4,000 in Greater Newton Community Foundation. To help ensure Peace Connections' sustainability, pledges continue to be encouraged. Please consider contributing yet this year!

2008 Upcoming Events:

JULY

The next Bridges/Circles meeting will be July 24, 5:30-7 pm at Peace Connections.  Cookie Wiebe will be giving her 20 minutes power point presentation on "Going Beyond Getting Ahead" and Circles.

Help celebrate Peace Connections 25 years of working for peace on FRIDAY, July 25 from 8 am-5 pm. (Yes, we are open on this Friday due to the Newton sidewalk sale!) Get 25% off one item of your choice in the Gift Shop with coupon and enjoy refreshments!

Colorado Share orders are due the first week in July and pick-up is the third week in July. Peace Connections is a site for SHARE Colorado and Prairie Land Foods. Both are programs designed to help people purchase food at lower costs – great ways to stretch your budget or a way to purchase and donate to a food pantry to help others. (Peace Connections does receive a small reimbursement for any SHARE Colorado items purchased at our store.)

AUGUST

Colorado Share orders are due the first week in August and pick-up is the third week in August.

Everyone is invited to the Kids Kindness Fair on Saturday, August 16, from 10 am – 2 pm at the Newton Rec Center. Help celebrate the Kids Summer Food & Activity program and help get the new school year off to a positive start! There will be a variety of booths and activities, put on by Peace Connections and Community organizations (Bethel College Academy of Performing Arts, Ultimate Martial Arts, Youthville, and more), related to the Kids Pledge of Kindness (Nonviolence) for kids and families. Storytime on the hour and music on the half hour. Lunch from Tacos Mexico ($1 tacos & $1.50 nachos) and $1.50 BBQ sandwiches (with Druber's homemade buns) will be available for purchase, along with free drinks! Kettle Korn for snacking is available for visiting all booths! Come and go and enjoy fun and learning for the whole family!

SEPTEMBER

Colorado Share orders are due the first week in September and pick-up is the third week in September.

Cookie Wiebe poverty presentations are available Wednesday evenings during the fall/winter and the last weekend in September. Call Peace Connections to schedule a time for a presentation for your group!

Peace Connections Annual Phone-a-thon will be held during the week of September 8-11. Peace Connections board members will be calling everyone on our newsletter mailing list to review what we have been doing and ask for your support of this organization financially. If the call comes in the middle of your favorite TV show, feel free to tell us to call back. We very much appreciate the support you have given to efforts like the Getting Ahead classes for low income persons, Bridges out of Poverty training and community work, Nonviolent Communication study groups, and the Kid's Summer Food and Activities program. With your help we can continue to make a strong contribution in our community.
