2009 Upcoming Events: 

OCTOBER

The Circles Initiative Leadership Team (which will then be called the "Guiding Coalition") will meet on Tuesday evenings at 6 pm, beginning on October 13 at the First United Methodist Church, 801 N. Main, Newton.  Guiding Coalition meetings will be held one Tuesday a month, with future dates to be determined.

Stop by the Peace Connections booth at the Bethel College Fall Festival, Saturday, October 3, 9-3 pm. We will be located outside of the Fine Arts center and offer information and a sampling of store products. (We will not have a booth at Taste of Newton this year, but the store will be open that evening.)

International Eradication of Poverty Day* is October 17. On behalf of the Circles Initiative, Peace Connections will host a community poverty simulation at the Newton Recreation Center from 10 am – noon.  Experience what life is like for low-income families seeking basic needs on a limited budget.  Reflection/Discussion will follow the simulation regarding the experience and ways to move towards "making poverty history."  *Visit www.un.org/Depts/dhl/poverty/index.html for more info./resources regarding this day set aside.

Come & get a sugarless stamp at Peace Connections during the annual downtown Halloween Walk on Saturday, October 31, 4:30-6 pm.

NOVEMBER

Experience the Taste of Christmas in downtown Newton on Thurs., November 12, 10 am- 8 pm, Fri., November 13, 10 am – 5:30 pm & Sat., November 14, 10 am – 5:30 pm. Stop by Peace Connections to see our Christmas specials and sample our refreshments.

Weekend Vigil for the School of Americas (SOA) will be held November 16-18. Keep participants in your thoughts and prayers.

DECEMBER

We hope to have the PC Gift Shop open late until 8 pm on Thursdays throughout December.  Stop by on December 3, 10, or 17 to find gifts that reflect peace for those on your list!
